Fighting Colitis
In conjunction with the Royal College of Surgeons, IA has funded
Mr. Ian Bradford FRCS to research neutrophil chemotaxis in ulcerative colitis, looking
at the body’s natural inflammatory and anti-inflammatory agents with a view to harnessing
them to fight colitis.
Family Link in ulcerative colitis
In conjunction with the Digestive Disorders Foundation (formerly the British Digestive
Foundation), IA has funded Dr. Martin Carter BA(Hons) MB BchirMRCP(UK)
to perform a study into family linkage in ulcerative colitis.
Treating Crohn’s Disease
IA has funded research work by Professor John Hermon-Taylor and
his colleague Dr. Tim Bull, of St.George’s Hospital, London, in their search for
a means of treating Crohn’s Disease.
A new research project into Crohn's Disease started in 2004 with
funding from IA's Donald Currie Research Fellowship Fund.
Skin problems associated with stomas
IA has assisted in funding the work of Dr. Callum Lyon MA MRCP,
a dermatologist examining the skin problems associated with stomas.
Research into pouchitis
In conjunction with the Royal College of Physicians, IA has funded
Dr. Chris Probert MRCP in a research study into pouchitis, a complaint similar to
colitis suffered by some internal pouch patients.
